Filmmaker/Surfer Michael Oblowitz was born in South America. He was a seminal figure in the New York New Wave film movement, and has directed ten feature films and a wave of music videos (including the first rap video on MTV) and commercials. Rania Ajami is a Lebanese-American director, who has won awards for a feature documentary on Qaddafi’s female bodyguards and for several short films. She has been cited in Filmmaker as one of the 25 new faces of indie film (2004); her work has been featured in many international journals, including The New York Times.
